Our Organization

Equal Chance is dedicated to uplifting Black women and girls across Canada, ensuring they have equitable access to opportunities, services, and resources. Based in Ottawa, our mission focuses on promoting their social, economic, cultural, and political well-being through tailored programs, projects, and policies.

Our work addresses a range of critical issues including employment, mental health, reproductive health, homelessness, human rights, justice, health, childcare, financial literacy, and international affairs.

Despite progress, Black women and communities continue to face systemic barriers, particularly in the labor market, with higher levels of unemployment and lower wages.

We advocate for the inclusion of Black women's voices and expertise in policy development, recognizing the importance of intersectional race and gender analysis.

Through collaboration with allies and organizations, we strive for a more just and fair society where everyone has an equal chance to thrive.
We understand that "No one is equal until we are all equal".

The inclusion and respect of Black women in all facets of Canadian society are not just moral imperatives; they are fundamental to building a truly equitable and prosperous nation. Black women bring invaluable perspectives, experiences, and talents to every sector, enriching the cultural fabric and driving innovation. However, systemic biases and discrimination have historically marginalized their voices and limited their opportunities. By actively promoting their inclusion and respecting their contributions, we not only honor the principles of fairness and justice but also harness the full potential of our society. When Black women are empowered and valued, our communities flourish, benefiting from their leadership, expertise, and resilience. Therefore, it is incumbent upon us to dismantle barriers, amplify their voices, and create environments where Black women can thrive, ensuring that Canada fulfills its promise of equality and opportunity for all.

Equal Chance is dedicated to advancing the social, economic, and political well-being of Black women and girls across Canada. Through advocacy, education, and community engagement, we strive to dismantle systemic barriers and promote equity, ensuring that every Black woman and girl has equal access to opportunities, resources, and representation.
